Eric Abele is a theatrical designer and construction artist, who specializes in costume and puppet design for Theatre for Young Audiences. Currently Eric is the Lecturer in Costume Design at the University of Maryland Baltimore County Department of Theatre, where he also serves as Associate Chair.
Before he arrived at UMBC in 2014, he was the Director of Design and Production at Lexington Children's Theatre where he oversaw the design, design mentor-ship, and execution of all technical elements for a busy season of professional plays and served as a designer-in-residence.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Arts and German at Centre College and completed his Masters of Fine Art in Costume Design at the University of Tennessee. Eric's work as a costume designer has taken him to many theatres across the country and internationally, having studied design in England, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic.
Eric Abele is a 200-HR Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with a Registered Yoga School (RYS). He teaches at CorePower Yoga in Baltimore, as well as community classes at UMBC. Eric uses power yoga to create focus and community within theatre and is working to develop yogic techniques to improve student learning experiences.
